    Trial run with 250HO

Ran my boat yesterday for the first time, 2008 Stratos 201, 2008 250HO....Guys I have had Mercs,Yammies and even an older Johnson, never have I heard an engine so quiet at startup! Although BRP says no breakin I did run it for 3 hrs with motor tucked in varying RPM's,I'm from the old school. Let me tell ya,this motor spins up right now,on plane in 4 seconds, midrange is awesome! I had a 250XB that I really thought was a Beast, I can tell ya,this motor will hang right there with anything out there. It was a joy to drive this combination!

Hazy, you said you got to 5500 rpm and 78. Was that full throttle and trimed out? or was there some left?

Sounds awesome. Same rig on order. Can't wait for the lake to get liquid again. Keep us posted how the hole shot is with full livewells etc

Tonka,I was reluctant to go full throttle until I feel the motor is broke in,it has 500 Rpm left.A little tweaking on the prop, maybe raise the motor a touch and I think it will easily be a 80mph loaded.

Re: Trial run with 250HO (mlambert)

Absolutely the quickest & highest torque, stock, out of the box outboard motor available. They motors are also understressed to the max. There is a lot of untapped horsepower still left in these motors. There is no better motor available for high performance bassboats. If BRP want to these motors have a long way to go. The only thing holding them back are EPA regulations, but BRP will find a way & also keep the EPA happy. Its up to people like us to keep buying these motors & asking for more. BRP need your input!! Tell them.

Re: Trial run with 250HO (mlambert)

mlambert, glad to see some one putting one on a bullet but that will not be a good gearcase for the 20 footer as you need to fully surface the case in order to attain best top end numbers.

The L2 case doesn't have water pickups low enough and it needs a nose cone. Too bad swapping for a Merc sporty 1.62 would void the warranty cause that is what is needed for that motor to absolutly smoke the Mercs on a 20 footer.

My guess is that your accelration and hole shot is going to be so superior to the Mercs that you won't even mind not hitting the big top end numbers. By the time they catch up you'll already have afish or two in the boat.

Re: Trial run with 250HO (Neveredge)

Sorry but I do not understand what you are saying. The new 250HO & 225HO L2 gearcase is doing very well in Australia. Several 250HO's are pulling a single skier at 90mph in the ski races over here & making short work of the 250XS & 300XS Mercs. The HO's are breaking record after record. No problem with surfacing & plenty of water pressure when lifted very high. In addition to that the new gearcase are having nowhere near the problems being experienced with the ultra low water pickups on the Mercs with picking up mud when getting to close to the bottom plus the HO's still have full 3 year warranty even when used in pro ski racing.

Re: Trial run with 250HO (LIQUID NIRVANA)

Nirvana, what kind of hulls do they run in the ski races? I'm guessing that the bullet and the ski race boats have very different hulls making it possible to surface the new gear case on a ski racer and not an a bullet. I guess we'll see, I hope that E-rude smoke the mercs.

Re: Trial run with 250HO (Th' Ragin Cajun)

THey are smokin the standard & modified 25OXS & 300XS over here. The only way the merc 300XS can win is when there are 2 on a boat compared to 1 x 250HO.

No bull, these new motors ARE THE TOP OF THE HEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & very very understressed. There is a lot more horsepower & torque in them powerheads guys.

The labsport boats are modified tunnel hulls. I will get pictures & post here.

Re: Trial run with 250HO (LIQUID NIRVANA)

LN, the tunnel boats the skiiers use run the case deeper than a Bullet does. The Bullets run at 1 1/2" to 2"s above the pad. The Ventalator hulls the Ausies are using don't run that high. It is also hard to pull a skiier with a fully surfaced prop.

The L2 case is not going to run with the sporty on a 100 mph boat. The 250XS with a sporty can run very high 90s on a 20 foot Bullet. I just don't see the L2 running these speeds without blowout or loss of WP because the pickups are too high.

The L2 is a much better case than what BRP has offered in the past but it ain't no sporty and BRP knows it.

Slip a sporty on that H.O. and it should smoke the 250XS.

WOW Shawn, how much seat time do you have with the new motor, what are your results and on which hull?

Have you had a dose of Black lately or what?
