    Wats ur thoughts and opinions??

With the rising costs of 91 octane no ethanol price of $4.29 as of today... wat is everyones thoughts regarding oil. I've been using Yamalube ($31.99/gallon) juss for the simple fact that I've been told by Kurt that this is the particular oil that had been used previously with this motor. Juss wondering if anyone uses penzoil or less expensive oil and have had any problems directly related to the type of oil being used. My motor is premix and been using 50:1 and have gone through a gallon in 3 weeks so far. Getting pretty expensive to run.

You want to spend money on Oil or a rebuild it's up to you. You can't use it while it is being rebuilt but you sure can when you pay for the Yamalube. The Pennzoil may be cheaper but may not give the motor what it needs to survive.

I have run the penzoil for years without an issue. When the heads were pulled they looked great. As long as you use a TWC-III you would have no problem as long as the motor is getting the oil that it needs.

Its a myth about the oils...TCW-3 is all that is needed...it goes along with the 3k truck oil change...that went out over 10 years ago when CU proclaimed 5k was fine and any oil fine...I have used Wal-Mart oil for at least 10 years for both truck and outboard...
You can save a whole truck or car oil change by waiting until your computer gets to 10% or 5k...enough to buy some outboard oil...so there u go...

Oil and additives are cheap and so is gasoline compared to a Powerhead but it's your choice

The oil topic has been kicked around for a long time, OEM brand vs other brand. The Merc mechanic I use says for Merc use Prem Plus and for Yammi use Yamilube. He doesn't feel the after market oils have the extra goodies the oems have added to their oils. When I had a Chrysler motor I ran Pensoil, when I went with a Merc back in 1989 I used Merc oil. Never had a proplem with the Chrysler motor, never had a problem with the Merc 150 hp carb motor (1988), blew a rod on the 1999 225efi (under warrenty) and had a cylinder sleeve turn on the 300xs at 237 hrs (under warrenty). None of the problems were oil related but I am still using the Prem plus with quick kleen. It is expensive, I figure it adds about $1.00 per gal of gas. Oil is kind of like buying a car, personel preference based on experience and trusting those that give advise. This is jusy my opinion.

There is no way I would run Walmart brand oil in an Opti or ProMax, or any DFI or high performance motor for that matter. Thats crazy.

For example merc has premium, premium+, and Opti oil. All with a specific additive packages and engine family intended for. Then theres Walmart Tech 100000000 that covers everything? No way. It may be ok for an old low tech carb motor or a weed eater.

Sounds like the majority are in favor of running the higher cost oils. I guess Im staying with the Yamalube to try and prevent possible future problems.

You should try to find yamalube in bulk. I think I pay around $18 per gallon.

Most Yamaha Dealers offer a bulk rate with Yamalube here in Florida. They buy it in 55 gallon drums and fill plastic containers which must be returned to be re-filled.

I use a few here in the Naples-Fort Myers area or the Yamaha Dealer in Lake Placid, Florida.

All the Dealers are within a $1-2 of each other per gallon.

I have NOT tried this place, but here is an online place for $17.25. I would try locally first:

    http://www.domo-online.com/bulk2cycle

It would take a while to go thru 55 gallons, so find a local Dealer, if possible.

We buy yamilube and merc prem+ in bulk, save about $5.00/gal. Thought about a drum at a lesser price but dicided it's easier to swallow ($$$) 3-4 gals at a time instead of 55.

Take a look at these comparisons of different oils.

By the way Wal-Mart has Premium Plus for 25.99 here in South Florida.

Dean don't know of that but I would bet that it is not that much difference.
