    Repowering with a jackplate

    Hi All-

    I've a '93 274 that I'm repowering back to a 150. I got it with a '96 125 Merc and I recently acquired a '91 XR4 to drop on it after I get some work completed on it.

I'd like to get a jackplate mounted before bolting up the 150 but I figured to check here as far as the set back.
My knee-jerk reaction is a 6" but any info from owners of like hulls is what I'm looking for. Let me know what you got y'all...

Cables we gonna be my next question, thanks for bringing that up. I just replaced both steering cables last season & was hoping to not have to get longer ones. I've plenty of slack in the control cables so there shouldn't be a problem there...

My bet is that you'll be fine with most everything EXCEPT your steering cables. The only way to know is to install the plate and see.

I had a 270 / 150 combination that had a 6" plate and it worked well with that hull configuration.

Yeah, I guess if I gotta replace I gotta replace. I can always install them 12' cables that are on the 274 on a 17' Kingfisher I have, the steering is shot on that one, just need the dual rack helm assy...

Re: Repowering with a jackplate (pYr8)

I was thinking about adding transom plate inside top & bottom when I add the jackplate but the "T" bracing is in the way. I'm kind of concerned about the added leverage with the JP... The transom is in good shape so far & I don't want to fowl it up.

Should I just add the JP with the washers & square plates already in there or is there a better method? Maybe make some plates that'll fit out of 3/8" or 1/2" aluminum plate?
