Im looking to put a new prop on my 115 Etec. I only get 45 to 46 on a Stratos 186 XT and I dont think it runs at its best. Im looking to get a bit more out of it which one would be the best and why? Thanks Ryan

I have a 20p Raker and it helped to hole shot but didnt help the speed that much. Im getting the same speeds with the boat loaded you are getting. Empty I can do much better though.

Thanks vorbeck. I guy told me he was gettinf 53 fully loaded with a 90 merc? I dont get it to be honest how he would get that much. The boat is a skeeter alot heavier boat then what we run for sure.
53 with a 90 seems like quite a stretch.

I hit 60 GPS with the boat empty once on a perfect day, so I guess it could happen. I seems unlikely that it could run that fast on a regular basis.

Matt Vorbeck if you don't mind me asking yous running jackplates? Because mean didnt come with one on a perfect day with nothing in my boat I can maybe get 48 mph
I have a 186XT w/Evinrude 115H.O. The dealer ran several props on the boat and found the 19 pitch Viper Stainless to be the best. It aint cheap though. I get 51/52 GPS and 54 on the speedo @ 5300rpm (1/2 tank of gas and me with gear). But I have also been told the 115 H.O. is almost equivalent to a 130hp non H.O. I can nail it and get on plane pretty fast even with a co-angler onboard. I usually trim it up a bit once she is up to speed and it feels like you hit overdrive. I am really satisfied with the E-Tec.![]()
This is the Evinrude performance info on the 186XT w/115 H.O.

53 GPS loaded with a 90 ain't gonna happen.
I've got a jackplate thread started; so far the results aren't encouraging, but I've yet to try a s.s. prop. I had a LaserII lined up to try yesterday, but the dealer couldn't find a thrust washer to fit.
Mine 186 will run about 49-50 GPS/55-56 speedo with two on board, no better/no worse with the 6 inch jackplate.
When I looked at the chart mine is runnig right around 5500 rpm and hitting 45 to 46 so Im thinking according to the chart I should run the 20 pitch instead to give the best results. Im also running Lake Ontario and the Bay Of Quinte two bodies of water that get rough fast. Three blade should be the best then?
I can't comment on the 3 vs. 4 blade; I don't have any experience.
I was told because of the hull design a jackplate wouldnt help speed. I also cant speak about the 3 vs 4 blade prop, but i have had a viper and a raker prop on the boat and the raker preforms much better than the viper for me. I am running an older raker and not the newer raker II if that makes a difference.

Perfect Vorbeck thanks for the help guys kindly appecaited.
Todd Morgan claims you can get 2-3 mph more with a jackplate IF using the right prop. I haven't got the right prop.
