    Help Please

I recently purchased a rebuilt powerhead for my 02 Evinrude 225 ho. The mechanic called me tonight to tell me that she can't turn the flywheel at all. What could cause this? The powerhead was rebuilt by an authorized BRP dealer in WI. The only thing i could think of is that it's been sitting in the guy's office i bought it from since 05 and that the assembly lube has gelled, and the rings are kinda stuck to the cylinder walls. she didn't crank on it very hard in fear of tearing something up. anybody have any ideas please.

I know i'm supposed to have model#/serial# for my motor when i ask questions but it's at the shop right now and i don't have that info.

Try another dealer if it was running when you brought it in. They just don't "lock up" sitting there. If she is the only game around then have her pull the heads and look. Tell her to put it in neutral also.

this is a remanned powerhead that i bought from an individual. I melted #1 cylinder on my motor and this was a "cheaper" alternative. The powerhead that i bought had new pistons installed and from what i understand the only reason it was rebuilt was a wristpin broke. The lower unit isn't installed right now, would it matter if it was in gear or not. Thanks for your response.

A little rust and corrosion can work wonders inside a motor. Steel piston rings and cast iron cylinders near the coast can grow together over time. That is one possibility.

Run Forrest, Run. Get your money back and then some to cover the labor to date.

    Re: Help Please (Promaxxum)

thanks for the input guys, here's an update:

went over to look at the motor, the mechanic pulled the heads back off and everythiing spins fine. The problem is the pistons are hitting the head when they're installed. So it looks like whoever rebuilt the powerhead screwed it up. I assume the only way to get it right is to tear the motor completely down.....As you can imagine, i'm not very happy right now.......Any other suggestions????? Thanks

    Re: Help Please (Bassmeister)

well we figured out what the problem was....... The people that did the rebuild put 3.0 head gaskets on a 3.3 block. The size difference was enough to make the pistons hit the metal ring on the gaskets and cause it to not be able to rotate...... i called the person i bought it from and we got the marina that rebuilt the motor to give me a 90 day warranty from when it starts for the first time, so we'll see what happens....wish me luck guys...
