    Help with price/negotiation on 200XL

Posted on heres a while back about a 2008 200XL with 225 E-Tec leftover. A few of you in'd me and I appreciate it. Well, the boat is still at dealer and I am still here...
I really like the boat, it has a dual console and 80# TM, plus alll the usual Stratos package items.
The dealer says $36,969 is his invoice and that is what he wants. On my trade I'm still $500 under what I owe, so I won't be breaking even on that unless he comes up a little.

Am I unreasonable thinking he should be coming down to move the boat (even under invoice) or do you think asking invoice on a 2008 is fair? What do you guys think is fair, and what is a good price to meet in the middle with? Thanks for the advice.

I personally think if they are not willing to give you the extra 500 bucks to sell a boat your talking to the wrong dealer.

I am not taking it that way; everybody I've spoken to says they are good, it just takes a while to get the deal done. My concern is the price on a 2008 not dropping below invoice.

I wouldn't give that for a leftover 2008. Look at average retail on a 2008 on NADA because in normal economic conditions that would be close to what you could get out of it for.

Just out of curiosity, I would contact a bank and see what they would value and loan you on a leftover 2008. I would want to be fair but I also wouldn't want to be that far upside down in a boat.
I don't know where we are, but we are making darn good time.

What options are on it? I paid less for my boat new in 08 but it had a 70lb trolling motor which has failed twice once repaired under warranty the second time I paid for repair and I will have to replace it this year at my own expence. My electronics were very low grade. I had no jackplate which is a must with a 200. So look at all things it may be an OK deal. Make sure it has an 8" jack plate.

If you like it and are going to be happy, whats 500.00.

I have a 2007 200xl. I love my boat and I have had it about a year and a half. That being said, I would probably love it a little less if I had $37k tied up in it. IMO As soon as you drive off the lot you will loose alot of money. It will then be worth the same as a used 2008 boat and motor. You should be able to find a good used '07, '08 with some warrenty left for $20K to $25K. Keep the $15k for yourself or upgrades.

Re: Help with price/negotiation on 200XL (LM Bass Angler)

I bought a leftover 2008 200xl in August of 09 and I didn't pay anywhere near that asking price... Had a 6" jackplate, 80lb MinnKota and 2 Humminbird 787c2's... Sounds like a pretty steep price for a leftover 08... Dan

Willing to travel?? This is a boat that is listed on this site and it is my local dealer. Just thought I would mention this, basically the same price as you have and it is a year newer with what sounds like more options. Call and ask for Sam if your interested, he is the owner.

"Brand New with full factory warranty. 6" manual jackplate, MinnKota Fortrex 80#, Humminbird 727 at dash, livewell pumpout system, hot foot, pro trim, pro team package, tackle boxes, 3 bank charger, keel shield, boarding ladder. Tandem trailer w/brakes, aluminum spare, stainless fenders, ratchet tiedowns, laser cut logos. Call: 423-587-5555 or email for more information"

For that price the dealer would have to throw in a JP, good electronics, or some extras.

I got my 08 as a leftover in 09 and bought it 7k cheaper than a current model. That dealer is way high on his now 3yo boat.

Keep in mind guys he is trading in his boat, if he sold his boat and went in with cash he could buy it a lot cheaper, you can bank on that.

Exactly!!!! It's a 3 year old boat no matter how you look at it. You may pay dealer invoice but if you were to sell it 1 hour after you took it off his lot you wouldn't get anywhere near dealer invoice.

Look it up on NADA and see what a 3 year old boat like that is worth......

That is also true Rodney. I still think said dealer is to proud of the boat otherwise it would be gone already.
