Why would someone do that? It is a little too cold for me to even consider shaving my head right now.
I think save ya money, because when you start changing the compression numbers, as well as the squelch& plume area on a 2 stroke, ya looking for trouble......
iwas at the boat store today and they were talking about it i was just curios
As with shaving heads you will need to change timing and increase fuel flow and enlarge your exhaust to push it out. If you go too high you will need to increase the octane of fuel to compensate also. You can gain some by shaving the heads but it needs to be precise on both heads.
this is one of the oldest tricks in the book.its were you start if ya lookin for more hp.this plus fuel adjustments and fiber reeds will bring an old cross flow or looper to life.![]()
If you take the time and do it right (reading spark plugs, jetting, timing) there is a good deal of horsepower to be had. I have an 85 115 johnson and CC'd the heads to get 145 lbs out out of it. I ended up going up one size in jets, i drilled out the exhaust. All said and done, i gained 400 rpms and 4 mph.
Burning the candle at both ends.
What engine are we talking about?
Here is the upside, done right, you pick up a significant amount of power, perhaps 10 to 15 hp. The downside, if you don't jet it right, BOOM!!! If you don't reduce the timing to compensate (depends on the engine) BOOM!!!!! You have to buy super unleaded. If you don't have the squish clearnance right (depends on the engine) then it won't run right.
If you are serious about it, post on Scream and Fly and see if Racer will respond. Give him specific's. He is the most qualified person I am aware of to get you in the ball park.
You may also need some supporting parts, ie, bigger carbs, etc.
