Do you think that the 1.5" ram mount would be strong enough to hold a HDS 7. I have a 294 and want to mount it either on the side panel infront of the shifter or in the black turf area right next to right hand side of the console.

Yeah you should be OK with that one. Any bigger unit and you will have to go to the larger mount.
