You just need a “T” for the drop line from the Mercmonitor. There should be a fuse holder on the Mercmonitor that should have the fuse removed. If it is installed, the MM will be trying to power the NMEA network in addition to the power node on the network.

The monitor will supply the power to the backbone. As was said above, there is fused power off of the monitor and most likely the fuse is removed. I used a 5 Amp. Not sure if that is right or not, but I have 3 amps for the units anyway so I am not overly concerned. The T that goes from the monitor to the unit needs to be capped at the other end with a terminator. Once the backbone is set up correctly, it is a matter of setting the gateway in the "Settings" menu on the monitor. It will likely say "Off" now, just choose "Edit" and select "NMEA 2000". I think you need to set "Transmit" under the Gateway as well.

You will see the gauges on the HDS but they won't come alive until you turn the key and power on the Mercmonitor.

I don't have access to the unit at the moment so I may not be 100% here, but I just did it like three days ago and I think this how it went.

Just leave the power node on your network as is and just connect the nmea cable to your network.....you can not power the network from 2 different places....

True. Let the Power Node be the only power source. Leave the fuse out of the Mercmonitor.

Good point. I hadn't yet powered my network and in my specific planned use, I only need the NMEA when the big motor is running anyway.
