    Advice on 200 Opti

Hello Gents, I have a 2000 model 200 opti Saltwarter SN:OT166260. I was out on the water today and it started acting strange when i went to fire back up to move spots, at first it would turn over and not fire like the kill switch was pulled so i double checked it, then when i tried to start it would turn over and hit just once but not start, next i checked the fuel bulb to make sure it did not loose prime it was hard, i could here a pump when i turned the key on. When it finally started it would raise the rpm like the throttle was open but drop right back to idle, it seemed to run OK once it started. the rpm would jump up when i started it for the rest of the day then settle to normal. It never gave a warning light or Beep.

Has any one had something like this happen to them? Thanks in advance for the advice.

You need to test the fuel and air pressures at the same time with dual glycerin filled gauges.

Savage thank you for pointing me in a direction to start checking thing out. Looks like i'm going to have to get a shop to look at it, i have an automotive fuel pressure gauge but it is not fluid filled, that is one of the few tool i don't own lol.

Good evening gentlemen, i have an update on my motor it turns out i had a bad diaphragm on my left cylinder fuel rail, had the mechanic change both of them while he was their also changed plugs and fuel filter. took it out on the water and it seemed to fix the starting issue.

But a new gremlin has shown it head. it is down on power when trying to get on plane last time i was out it would only turn 3000 out of the hole and as the boat slowly got on plane got to around 4000 ish, but then out of the blue like you turned a switch it would pull to full rpm and be fine for a little then like switch turned of it would drop rpm.

I had the cowl off it in the yard jut to make sure all connections were good, hooked up the hose and started it checked the spark with a noncantact checker i have and all the coils were firing but as i worked down the wire i lost spark on a wire. the wires look to have been on a while. i was thinking they might not have like being played with when the plugs were changed. and could use a replacement.

    what do yall think.

    thanks,

Uncle... not sure why you reported your own post to moderators... Don’t see any reason to moderate the thread at this point.

if you question the condition of the wires, it’s likely they need replaced. Inspect those plugs too (especially for hairline fractures).

Good evening all, so i changed the plug wires i pulled the plugs to check them out all were black and sooty, started it at the house and it sounded pretty good. Took it out monday and it idled good while warming up, when i hit it to get on plane it did not want to go above 3000rpm, if i stayed in it it would eventually get up on plane and rpm would slowly go up to around 4250 but thats all it would do. then out of the blue it would pick up and run fairly well. to the point i came to a stop and hammered atleast a dozen times and it would pop up on plane like it should. we went over and fished for 20-30 mins started it up to go in and back to the low rpm thing, put it on the trailer and had to use the winch. i put together some gauges last night and when i turn the key on but dont start the motor the fuel pressure went to 45psi, when i started and ran the motor at idle it had air at 76psi and fuel at 86psi. i did notice that once the motor was stopped the air held pressure but the fuel would bleed right down. So thats where i am now. as always thanks for taking the time to read and for any thoughts and advice given.

Perform a spark test as the problem is occurring.
