First, what a great site.
So I bought a 97 Javelin 389 dual console with an 89 150hp Evinrude XP motor. The previous owner wrecked his 89 and saved the motor and put it on a brand new 97. This is my first Bass boat.
Question #1... I want to figure out what I should do with the motor. I've heard the old XP's are good strong engines. The engine has good compression and runs good. It's cold natured but once it's warm it starts immediately. So my question is should I just tune up the motor and run it, or should I upgrade to a newer motor. If I upgrade what would you guys recommend? 175hp or 200hp?
Question #2... The boat pulls hard left at slow and high speed, suggestions?
Question #3... I'm replacing the carpet, How much, and where is the best place to buy it?
Question #4... The boat is a little slow out of the hole (not horrible), The prop is a Stainless 3 blade Raker, I don't know the pitch. If I stay with the 150 what prop should I run? And would a Jack Plate (6 in) help?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
