Re: vent plugs in prop (Gorace3)

Venting a prop on holeshot to 3500-4000 rpms normally is best... The yamaha props dont take plugs and you did not say what prop you have.

Re: vent plugs in prop (Gorace3)

plugging the holes on your prop, regardless of what kind it is, will kill your hole shot.... the holes in the prop allows part of your exhaust to come out around the blades allowing it to cavitate, letting it spin quicker and get more of a bite on take off.

What Mike said. If your venting too much then plugs will help.

So...the less bubbles around the prop the better the hole shot????? Oh well, guess I was wrong....sorry about the incorrect info.

What Mike and Eric are saying is to try different plugs until the motor revs to about 3800 on holeshot. More than that is blowing the prop out with too much vent, less is bogging the motor.

I was always taught, the more bubbles the better

Nope, That would mean a chopper would be best on bassboats. 4000 rpms on holeshot is a good target rpm on many bassboats unless it's not pushing the boat forward hard enough.

Not enough bubbles and the holeshot is slow....to many bubbles and it will not plane off because of cavitation....it's a fine line...

I have never looked at the RPMs when I take off. But usually within 50ft and 2-3 seconds and she's gone. Is that a good hole shot????
