Where is the best place to mount a thru-the-hull transducer on an 08 201XL?

Where ever the instructions that came with the unit says. Usually in the bilge area on a flat surface close to the bilge pump.

Just as he described. Be sure to set it back far enough so that the drain plug doesn't hit it when screwed in. DON'T ASK how I know this.

I took a paper cup and cut it down to about 1/2" high and set it where I wanted to install the transducer. I filled that with 1/4" of epoxy and set the transducer down into the epoxy. I was able to wedge it under one of the hoses to hold it down until the epoxy set up.

Mounted mine for a humminbird just to the right of the bildge. Just got off the phone with humminbird and they said use extra epoxy on the left side to compensate for the angle so it's flat
