2008 250 HO break -in procedure

    how many hours is the break-in on the 250 HO ? I've heard several different numbers. I've heard 2, 5 & 10.

As I understand it during this "break-in" time the motor is running double oil.

Anyone know what the actual break-in time is ???

Run as hard as you like. The motor is fed double oil for 2 hours when over 2000RPM

They say none required. I still run first 2 hours under 2000 and next 8(up to 10) do not hold on wide open or same high rpm's for more than a couple of minutes. Then let her go. Does not cost any more to be a little safe. Hard running may be the largest cause of motor failures. NASCAR motors average 500 to 1000 miles and then they are rebuilt or canned. How long to you think your truck would last if 70% of the hours was over 5000 rpm's. DA!

Truck motors and outboards are totally differnent. Outboards are made to run higher rpms. You can get a 5.9 liter 245 hp TRUCK motor for $4200. Whats the price of a 250 hp outboard?? 3 or 4 times that much! DA!

Don't matter if it is a NOTB motor or a fresh rebuild, I would trust the proven way gradual breakin with Double Oil. That is just me. sometimes the engineer listen some time they have voices in their heads .
