    285 Pro XL motor height

    05 Stratos 285 Pro XL
    05 Yamaha Vmax 150 carb
    6inch jackplate
    23m prop

Any idea what motor height works best for this combo.

Start out a 3.5 below the pad.

Motor is at 2.75, bought the boat used and was set up like this. Looking at the bolt holes and jack plate, the motor has been moved up and down, but was wondering if anybody had tried higher or lower with results. What about prop size on this combo, anyone tried different props with better results than a 23m.

I have a 06 285/150 HPDI with a 6 inch jack plate set at 3.25 below pad turning a 25 tempest plus to 5850 rpm going 62.7 mph(gps) fully tournament loaded w/two people. Boat has excellent holeshot also.

Lowprofile - I have a 2004 285 with 150 Johnson Carb and running a 24 Raker and 6" jackplate. Essentially the same as you excluding prop pitch. I found 3 3/8" below pad to be the best for me, 5500 RPM and 61-62 MPH (fall/winter/spring)depending on load and conditions. 5350-5400 RPM in summer, 60 MPH max.
I marked my jackplate with a center punch in 1/8" increments once I set the baseline at 3.5", so adjustments are pretty simple and I can go back to a setting without too much head scratching and bewilderment.
Hope you love that boat, I should have made my move to Stratos sooner than I did. The 285 Pro XL is a great rice.

I'll give you the results on a 24 Fury tomorrow. I have the same boat and motor and I am spinning the 23M at 6100 RPMs and 63.4 on the gps. I decided to try a Fury and see if I can pick up any speed and get my RPMs down to about 5800-5900.

Ok that will be good, i'm spinning mine around 6100 with a 23m and running 63-64 also, so it sounds like we are real close to each other. I just bought a 25m and will try it this weekend, will let you know the results also.

Re: 285 Pro XL motor height (lowprofile)

My best run today with the 24 Fury was 66.1 @ 5800 RPMs. The hole shot was as good as the 23M (Which had a great hole shot), the acceleration was noticably better, and of course the top end was almost three miles per hour faster (that includes all my fishing tackle along for the ride). All in all I am very satisfied. My boat is a dual console, and I am a pretty big guy (6'4" 290lbs), so I bet someone in a single console 285 who is average size would probably see a little more speed out of their boat. Let me know how the 25M runs out. .

Your numbers look good...Mine is also dual console I'm 5'11@160 and have my boat fishing ready , I don't carry a lot of extra stuff with me. The river has gone up overnight due to all the rain we got last night so I may not be able to test it out until next weekend, I am going to check and see.

I know what you mean, I usually fish the Warrior River, but it is slap torn up right now and you couldn't pay me to put my boat in there. I drove down to Lake Tuscaloosa because I knew it would be pretty safe to run in without having to worry too much about floaters.
