stratos 285 weight and tongue weight question

I am thinking of getting a stratos 285 but I want to make sure my car can handle it. I have an 05 jeep liberty. It can tow 5000 lbs and has a tongue weight of 750. I am not sure how much a stratos 285 weighs with gear, engine, fuel, etc. nor how many pounds sit on the tongue. Thanks.

It can handle it just fine. Your problem with that vehicle will be stopping, make sure you get trailer brakes and it should be ok.

I would say 22-2400# & a tongue weight of 200#. I would say to get brakes on the trailer as well. I tow mine w/ a 93 f150 & it concerned me in panic stop situations a couple of times.

My 278/ 150 intruder empty not a thing in the boat but batteries, No fliuds was 2860 on certified scale.

    spare tire 40
    oil 20
    30 gal gas 240
    jackplate 25
    on board charger 10
    tackle 50

3200 lbs looks more realistic........ 300 -350 tongue is the rule 10%. You can achieve this by balancing the boat on the trailer and towing with more or less fuel. & storage balancing

But its still a very areodyanmic boat. A 3200lb utility trailer is much tougher to tow on the hwy due to drag.

Brakes on the trailer are a huge safety factor.

I have a 08 Jeep Liberty 2wd and a 285XL. The jeep will pull the boat ok but with the 6cyl and small frame, it isn't going be great. I would wonder about the longevity of the transmission with long time use. I personally wouldn't want to run 70mph down the interstate towing it because the Jeep is so small and steering and braking at those speeds would concern me. Again, this is just me personally, although I have never felt unsafe while driving in town or on local (55mph) highway. I have never pulled it more than 30 minutes one way because I live pretty close to the lake where I live now so a big tow vehicle has never been needed but will be soon. I am in the process of moving and will have to pull it on the interstate about 5hrs to Arkansas. I will also be alot further from lakes there so I am currently looking for a bigger tow vehicle. So to answer your question, yes, but only you will know how safe you feel towing it. I hope this helps.
