    What prop would work best?

Hello all, New member here. I have been reading your post for years now and I have a question I know someone out there can answer.

I have a 96 Javelin 400SE. Johnson Venom 200. It came with a 24 Raker that I broke a blade on a while back. I bought a used Raker and it aint anything like the one I had. Anyway I just got done rebuilding the motor

    Ported to 250 specs.
    250 Carbs.
    Blocked Idle ports
    Fiber reels.
Cleaned slag out of finger ports
    Bored .030
    Decked block .020
    125 P.S.I.

The 24 I have on there now (used) wont lift the boat like the one I broke. The motor should peak out at 6500. The limiters are at 6700. I would like a decent hole shot but I also want top end too. Should I go with a bigger Raker or try a 4 blade. I dont have the money or resources to try diffrent props.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

I'd try a 23-24 tempest plus. Welcome to BBC.

That would put you at 71-75 at 6500. How fast was the 24 raker and how many rpms?

I know alot of people here will say I am lying but the good 24 on the 200 would run 72 (GPS) at 5700. Not sure what all was done to the good Raker but it was a great prop

Your replacement, was it a original Raker or a Raker 2. From what I hear the original was a much better prop.

Why couldn't you send both props to Mark. Then he could make your new one match your old one.

The replacement was a Raker 2. The original was a 98 year and the repalcement a 2004 or 05.

I thought about having the new one copied by the original but we moved back last year and I threw it away

Get gps speed & rpm numbers& boat name & model & send it to Mark. He can fix you up. In case you haven't noticed he's the man when it comes to getting the most from a prop.

When you rebuilt the motor, did you remove it from the boat? If so, did it get set back at the same spot...If you have a jackplate, you might try adjusting the engine height a little...Different props like different engine heights..
If you have to get another prop, then like Mike said, get a Tempest...They are everywhere, see if someone has one you can borrow to test... I ran one on a '96 201 and it was the best of anything I tried... It was the same hull as you have...

Re: What prop would work best? (skeeter400)

I ran a 200 Merc Promax with a 23 Tempest and ran it to 6200-6400 rpms, depending on load and heat...Holeshot was very quick and top end was 65-68 loaded...No chinewalk and drove like on rails...I tried about 10 different props on it over the 6 years I had it and the Tempest was the best all around prop I ran...

if you have done that much to the engine then you need to get it dyno'ed at the prop shaft you may have too much humph for the 24 raker especially the raker 2, I would try a 25 tempest and maybe up to a 27 tempest, I had a johnson 225ho on a 1994 201 stratos which dyno'ed out at roughly 240-245 hp at prop shaft and a 24 was too small for it I went to a larger tempest and saw close to 75 mph on a cool day gps.
