I bought a used 2003 stratos and bought the carpet to replace the fender carpet and boards , one was warped,well i took the three phillips bolts and locknuts off and pulled the board up and low and behold,it wasn't wood,it was plexaglass with the carpet wrapped around it and stapled ridecliously on the backside.Was this factory or has someone already replaced the board with this plastic piece?
I would be thinking that someone has replaced the originals with the Plexi. It would seem to me that with the plexi you might be better off. At least you wont have to worry about them rotting out from moister over time.

Mine was more like a type of black plastic maybe not plex but the drivers side had warped from the heat.
Mine are black plastic.
Mgtl82 so yours are original then.Well if these were put on at the factory they did a lousy job.I compared each and they are not the same size or shape?!
I took a piece of thick construction paper and crawled behind the tire and traced a pattern out then cut it out to see how it would fit.I plan on buying some 1/2" pressure treated plywood,some 1/4" stainless staples and i already have 3m #77 spray carpet glue to spray the boat side of the board and staple the fender side like the other one was.The plastic was between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick so i figure 1/2" plywood should be fine.
