    gas gauge stopped working

yesterday on the water after hitting some really rough water my gas gauge quit working. wires all plugged in at gauge , big question my boat is a 400T 1996 jav, do I need to remove everything like I had to do in my 94 stratos or can I just remove the top peice behind the seats to access the sending unit. also if anyone knows what size gallon the tank is would be great as it seems that it only takes 20-25 bucks to fill from 1/2 way according to the gauge. which would mean it is only maybe 25 gallons. any help with this would be GREAT! thanks, Steve

No idea how to get to the fuel tank, but i do know they'll hold nearly 50 gal. Seems i rember they have a 48-50 gal tank.

I have had mine do the same thing from time to time on really rough water. It Seemed that the float would sometimes get stuck. Try filling the tank and then see what happens the next time you are out on the water. You might just find that the problem will correct itself and begin working again.

You will have to take the plate behind your seats off and the take your seats and the place where your seats sit off. Atleast thats how it is with my 400sd. Its not hard.

Re: gas gauge stopped working (Jav400sd)

thanks saw where I had to do that, had to do it in my stratos, also thought they may have improved the design a few years later but guess not.

looks like they have had problems before as I took off the top behind the seats and there were a few different holes for screws. hope it is a 48-50 and not a smaller tank
