    javelin 400t

1994 javelin 400t with 2000 225 HO no jackplate and running a 13 1/4 x 27 shooter prop and only turning around 5400 rpms, the boat is bad slow, gps only around 61.would a jackplate help and how much setback?also have a 13 1/2 x 25 renegade but seems to be running about the same.the boat did have a 200 venom on it till a piston came through the block,it was turning about 5800 rpms and felt like it had alot more power than the 225.also both motors pull to the right very hard after the boat gets on plane, any ideas what would could cause it to be pulling to the right?thanks

    I'll take a stab, since I once had a 400. a 6 in plate is good an 8 better.
Get the motor raised, a good starting point would be 3.5" below pad and see what the rpm's are and go from there on prop selection. Raising the motor will probably help the steering torque too. If your still down on r's have the motor checked out before spending lots of $ on different props. JMO.

It probably pulls to the right cause the motor is to low. I have a 400sd which I believe might be just a little lighter than yours. Not sure though. A jackplate would help a lot. Not sure what you want to go to though. I'm running a 6inch plate but will probably get 2 inch spacers to try out. I know a 6 inch would work great. I'm running mine 2 3/4 below pad, all my tackle, livewells 1/2 full and gas about 1/2 and I've had it up to 80 gps. I'm also runnning a 28 rakerII. I would get a 6inch plate first and put the motor about 3.5 below pad and then go up from there a 1/4 inch at a time.
