    Help please............

O.k. here goes......... I bought a 1998 20' Javelin 400DC with a 200 Johnson Venom. It has a hot foot, 4 blade ss prop, manual jack plate, and a gorilla bottom. . The retired man I bought it from (he bought it new) told me not to run it but 5700 rpms. He also told me he ran from a storm one time in which he ran it 5500 rpm's and was running 72 mph. One man who test drove it before me moved the jack plate all around so now I haven't a clue where to start. I ran it 5500 and was doing 65 this weekend. I want optimal performance, but I don't want to blow my motor up trying to get every mph I can. All I read about is prop slippage and water psi and now I'm more confused. Sorry to ramble on, any help would be a BIG help. Thanks.......

    Exactly which prop is it?

That's a low 70's boat in it's day set up right. I'm not so sure about that gorilla bottom helping you any.

it is a Renegade Bass ss 4 blade 13 1/2 x 23. The gorrila bottom does add 38-44 pounds to your boat and I also had the wife in the boat. (130 lbs)
