    Information on Rude 225 HO

Greetings to all, I am interested buying a ranger with a 2004 Evinrude 225HO motor. I am completely unfamiliar with this motor and would like any words of wisdom or advice concerning this motor. All input is welcome, Thank you all in advance for your help and sharing your knowledge, Brad

P.S. I have requested the model and serial #'s and will post them when I get them from the owner.

All I can say is I love my 03 DI!! I changed over from XD-50 oil to the XD-100 oil and it seems to run better. It's smooth has a lot of torque, and just flat out runs great. Great running motors, starts first time, every time. Be sure to have it checked out and get a computer printout of the engines profile.

The 2000 DI still pushes the Champion beyond it's limits!

Have an 04 225 HO, probably 200 hrs on it by now. Great motor - pushes my 521 well, starts very easily even after sitting for several weeks, not bad on oil and gas esp if you can keep your foot out of it some. Issues to date - gearcase failed 3 months out of warranty, Bomb replaced at no charge; starter replaced under warranty (I didn't have a problem with it, shop said it was dragging); in my experience the motor eats plugs - get maybe 50 hrs out of a set, sparkplugs.com will be your friend. I would highly recommend this engine.

Try a set of the Iridium E-TEC plugs, Champion QC10WEP, make sure the thermostats allow each cylinder head to reach at least 130°F by installing the big-block V6 E-TEC thermostats.
