Does anyone own a 278 with an Evinrude 130hp?

Looking to improve performance. Motor just inspected Good by mechanic, 2 cylinders @140 and 2 @ 145. I was only running 40mph @ 5200 rpms with a shaggy 22p raker, I just had my prop re-worked, but haven't ran it yet. If that doesn't get me up above 50, then how much will a jackplate improve performance. I want to buy a jackplate while I have my motor off the boat (just replaced steering cables). Hydraulic or manual jackplate? If no jackplate, then what hole do you have yours set at for best performance? My prop is 5 below pad. I think I'm just too heavy when fully loaded. I have trouble getting on plane fully loaded with 22 raker.

is that speedo speed?a plate will help,6" manual would do ok,you should get to 5500 rpm as you raise the motor,if you don't go with a plate raise the motor 1 hole at a time and try it is about all you can do..if you are running heavy in the front end it will kill the speed so move heavy stuff to the back.

Yeah, already tried that but not much there.

I didn't mention the fact that I'm running 48-50 mph @ 6000 rpms for very short distances. Basically, hole shot is poor with livewells full and partner, but excellent with just me. top end has never been above 50.
