changing steering wheel 96 379 Se

I would like to change my steering wheel to one a little larger in diameter. Do I need a kit or something?

My boat has the rack and pinon dual cable steering. In other words, I can rotate the motor and make the steering wheel turn.

    Torque steer is getting ugly.

Is it just the torque that is making the steering hard or is it getting hard to steer all the time? Maybe you have a cable going bad or is it just too high on the jack plate?

I am only 3.25 inches below the pad, and its just hard to steer against the engine at WOT. Other then that, its easy. Its not centered either, and it has a keyway.

I was going to raise the engine a little more and see what happens. I have seen before where a TR04 gets easier to drive as the engine comes up.

My steering wheel is a small diameter one, I figured even another inch would be a big improvement.

It's been my experience that raising the motor will increase the amount of steering torque at wot. You may want to consider installing a torque tab on the skeg to help counter act the wot steering torque. Here's a link to one from BPS.

I thought about a torque tab, and may have to resort to one. I think part of the prob is my prop has to be a very steep 25p, because based upon what I was running with my GPS and my rpms, I have 1% slip.

    I need a 24p TR04.
