    water/dampness in rod locker

Boat is a '99 295 pe. Every now and then end up with a good bit of water in my driver side (starboard?) rod locker. Usually only happens in rough water. Worried that I may have a broken stringer, but hoping it is just spilling/leaking from the livewell. Have noticed no difference in handling or performance, so it is not acting like there is anything going on structurally. Any ideas or anyone else have this happen?

Re: water/dampness in rod locker (CanepoleSC31)

I have a 2004 201 and I do encounter problems on the starboard Rod locker also. Reels seem to deteriorate on that side. I keep my spinning rods on starboard side locker. Baitcasters on the port (left) are ok, no corrosion issues. My compartments do let water in. There is no gasket between the door and the boat so therefore in rough conditions ( Where your taking on water in the boat) the water is not sealed out so, makes it's way into compartments. I don't know of any other reason. Maybe someone else may have the answers.

Jerry, You are running a 201... You should not be taking any water over the bow, unless you are in 6' plus waves... Even if you are, it would take a bunch of water to make it past the lids and back up over the lips of the rod locker... Pobably coming it from somewhere else, not past the lids...

Canepole, I would check the silicone under the rubrail...It tends to get bad and leak between the hull and cap, when you are in rough water and the rubrail is getting a lot of spray up under it...Take a garden hose and spray the bottom side of the rubrail and see if it gets things wet...It it does, that is you leak...

Re: water/dampness in rod locker (201pro)

thanks for the reply's jerry and 201. 201 I have never thought about water getting in under the rub rail, but that is a great thought. I am going to check that out for sure. Usually only have water issues in rough conditions like what you mentioned. In my case - the water is not coming in from over the gunnels, so it has to be rub rail down.

Just to rule things out, do you think it is possible for it to be livewell overflow - or can i safely rule that one out. Any need to worry about a broken stringer?

Thanks again for your thoughts guys/.

I have a 97 295 PE and currently recarpeting. I was getting water in starboard rod locker. When I removed my carpet there were 2 holes drilled in the top. I am the second owner of this boat, bought it in 98. I don't know if previous owner put them there or were missed drilled holes from factory. I just sealed them with JB weld.
