Why is the 200 PXL only rated for a 225?

A lot of the other manufacturers have changed their ratings on their 20' boats. The Triton 20 X2, the Skeeter 20i, etc all are rated for 250 HP engines now. Are we ever going to see this logic applied to the 200 PXL?

Todd and others have proven that this hull will support more than 250 HP. There's no telling how much HP these guys are getting out of the HPDI's with the hydrotech packages.

And think about the Z19 Ranger. That boat is rated for a 225. I would love to see the 200 PXL's rating changed to a 250.

Maybe in the next couple of years you'll see that. I personally doubt it, but anything is possible.

Will it hold it? Yeah, it will, and you don't even want me to tell you how much hp Todd is pushing his '08 with.

There are a few reasons it's not 250, none of which have to do with the capabilities of the boat.

A lot of guys are going to the 250 and I would too if the 200 was rated for it. This industry is like most others, it is a copy cat industry. I would think that since the other manufacturers are rating their 20' boats for 250's that Stratos would follow suit. The 201 is basically rated for a 300 HP right? Therefore, at the current time, there really isn't a stratos boat that falls into this niche. I know a lot of guys would like to see this change made.

The 201 is only rated for a 250....I wish they still offered the Magnum Package, that did raise the HP limit on the 201 to 300.

hYou may want to drag your narrow but up to Norman in November. It should be a good time. Of course no rivvah for me to leap frog you . Would be a gas if you could make it almost like old times.

Sorry bo...that's the same weekend as the S&F River Ranch run.... Plus, Norman is a long haul for me! A little too long for an old geezer like me...

Well, a 200 with a 225 will still outrun all those you mentioned. The reason they increased the HP on those boats is because they made significant changes to the hulls which slowed them down.

The biggest problem with increasing the HP on the 200 is that too many potential customers would ASSUME it had to have a 250. That boat with a 250 (although it could handle it well) would require extra driving effort. Most of the customers would not need the extra HP.

Kenneth is right, the 200XL w/ 225HO will outrun all those boats mentioned. The 225 HO or XS is the answer to the 200XL, it essentially puts a 250 on the boat. Allowing the 200XL to be rated for a 250 would narrow the gap again between the 201 and 200, something it appears Stratos doesn't want.

Speed isn't everything anyway, I've never won a tournament because I had a faster boat (although it was a lot of fun at the time).

The C&O Edition 201 XL can come with a 300. If you want it on a Stratos 201 XL, C&O can make it happen. They just can't make a 250 on a 200 XL happen. But, if you want a 200 XL w/ a 225 HPDI, they'll gladly bolt on a Hydro-Tec Phase II kit and give you 260+ hp.

There are a lot of the 20X2's with 250 ProXs on them showing up around here, and I just love them. I love to laugh and wave as I blow by them in my 200XL/225ProXS.

But I would like to see what my 200XL would do with a 250ProXS on it.

You can just get the 225 Pro XS and forget about the Phase II Yamaha. The two have about the same power. My Pkase II Yamaha pushed an Alpha 199 about 72-73mph loaded. My 225 Pro xs is better than that on my 200XL by 2-3mph and the Staratos is a bigger boat.

    IMO

I don't think a 225 Pro Xs would come close to hanging with a phase 11 225 Yammie. I think you would have to be in a 250 Pro xs for that to happen.

    Landar,

You weren't pushing the same kind of boat. If you put that Pro XS on your 199, you'd be disappointed. On the other hand, put that Phase II Yammie on the 200, and you'd be pretty impressed.

The 199 Legend is a beautiful boat, but it's not fast.

There will never be a 200 w a 250 rating because it would cut into 201 sales. Plain and simple......I lobbied for it for several years......wasted my time.

    I had a 200 w 250 XS....86 mph light, 82 w fishing load and 78 with 2 and a fishing load. It wasn't a terribly impressive performance packgae from the fishability standpoint...holeshot stunk.

A buddy of mine got a call from a mercury rep. And he said that a 200 pro was going to be rated for 250 hp, and a 201 rated for 300 hp . That's what he was told. All the 20 and 21 ft triton's would be too.

The VZ 225 HPDI typically makes around 230 to 235 at the prop but with Phase II HydroTech kit, the engine should be pushing 270 to 280. The 225 and 250 seem to respond well to the mods...
