    Jack Plate Question

I posted this on the Setups page but all I got was "Don't buy a Rite Hite Plate they are bad...." which totally didn't answer my question. So maybe I will get a better answer here.

I just installed a used Rite Hite 6" Manual plate on the boat this past weekend. I have not had it out on the water yet but I have a question about the motor on the plate.

When we put the plate on the transom I lowered the adjustment down far enough to give me about 1" of downward travel. When we mounted the motor to the plate we used the same mounting hole so that we can keep the motor at the same height that it was at when it was on the transom. I know I will be raising it some when I start tweaking on the boat.

The problem that I have now is when I tilt the motor up to stow on the OMC bracket the hydro steering ram hits the top of the plate. So what I had to do was raise the plate 2" so the fittings on the hoses would clear the plate. Is this normal or did we do something wrong?

Also is the adjusting bolt supposed to be on the bottom of the plate? I have a call into Rite Hite to see if we did something wrong.

    Re: Jack Plate Question (MNJAVELIN)

on my 6" rite hite, Jav 409, the adjusting bolt is on the bottom of the plate.
what are you setting your prop to pad and turning for a prop on your 200?
i measured mine and started @ 8" below and still turning high rpms, 14 1/2 X 24 Raker

Re: Jack Plate Question (Jason E)

I have not taken any prop to pad measurements. When we put the plate on we made sure the prop was at the same height on the plate as it was on the transom. I have not run the boat since we put the plate on but I do know that the plate had to come up so that the steering ram would clear the top of the plate so I could trim the motor up all the way.

I don't have a water pressure gauge on it yet so I am planning on installing one of them this week then take it out for a test run. I will try to get the prop to pad measurement tonight when I get home.
