    Motor for 201 Pro

New to forum and was looking to purchase 07 201 Pro. What motor do you suggest? Was looking at 225 E-Tec Ho or 250 Opti XS. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Russ

Re: Motor for 201 Pro (basspro)

I haven't rode in a boat with an E-tec yet. That would be one suggestion. I have a few friends with the Merc 225 PRO XS and its an awesome motor. I would get lots of feedback before I made a decision. Be sure to look at both. Good luck!!

I am thrilled with my decison to get the 225HO Etec. You should see 74 light, 72-73 loaded to fish with it.

I can't count the number of 250HPDI's I've seen in my dealer blown up in the past 6 months on both hands and feet....

Thanks for the suggestions. Through some past experience I was not confortable with getting a Yammi, and not real sure about the Opti-Pop, but have run the E-tec with a buddies 200 Pro XL and absolutely loved the mid-range punch and overall performance.

Welcome to the boards and it looks like you have already answered your own question. You will not be disappointed with the E-TEC H.O.

Any suggestions on what prop to run on it. Stock 3 or 4 blade?

Re: Motor for 201 Pro (basspro)

A 27 Tempist is the norm on the 201/225HO combo. Most dealers prep them with 26 Raker2's, I got mine with a 28 Raker2 and can spin it. No other 201/225HO in our staff boats can turn one though....

No, I got lucky and got a straight hull and a strong motor. I have driven all of the demo boats personally, the best I have gotten out of any of them was 74.5 with a light load, no fuel, and jacked to the moon on the hydro plate.

Re: Motor for 201 Pro (basspro)

Next month you can buy the 250XS in sheeps clothing w/regular Optimax warranty. If you're looking for performance that should be a good choice.

You won't be disappointed with the Etec. Mine will spin the 28 RakerII also.
