    285 SET UP

I HAVE A 98 285 ELITE WITH A 98 EVINRUDE 150 INTRUDER, A 6 INCH HI JACKER & A 23 PITCH 4 BLADE RENEGADE. WHAT KIND OF TOP SPEED SHOULD I EXPECT? I HAVE OWNED THIS BOAT FOR 3 YEARS & LOVE IT. GREAT HOLE SHOT & 60 MPH ON GPS WITH 2 ADULTS & A MEDIUM LOAD. I HAVENT MESSED WITH SETUP BECAUSE I AM HAPPY WITH IT BUT AS YOU KNOW "TOO MUCH IS JUST BARELY ENOUGH." I WAS JUST CURIOUS IF THIS SPEED IS ABOUT ALL I CAN EXPECT OR DO I HAVE MORE.
    THANKS
    BRIAN

    Brian,

If you are pleased with what you have (and you should be), leave it alone. That's all you're really going to get with that prop. You could go to a 24 Raker and possibly pick up a mph or so, but your holeshot may suffer slightly. If it drives good where it is and you're happy, leave it like it is and enjoy.

    Re: 285 SET UP (MBH300)

I I have a "99 285 Pro Elite with a 175 Ficht on it. Tried every combination of props and jackplate settings there probably are and finally settled on a 23" Renegade with a 3" height. I get 62mph at 5700 rpm fully loaded with 2 people. Your not going to do any better than what your getting now and I wouldn't spend the money to have a prop worked over for maby 1 or 2 mph better. Stick with what you have and enjoy.

Re: 285 SET UP (Finess Man)

I had Mark C over on the prop forum blueprint my renegade and the boat has a much better holeshot. I thought it was great to begin with but now the bow rises 6" and thats it. chine walk is much better and the boat has much better pickup. when you punch it it will really accelerate quick. I did pick up a good 3 mph overall but the boat is much easier to drive. I did try a Raker not worked and it was quicker but I prefer the boat overall with a worked/cupped 23 renegade. I do wonder what my 24 Raker would do after Marks personal touch.. I'm at 65 Mph with 2 people and loaded. 1 person and a few gallons of fuel it's real close to 70 at 5850 rpms.

What rpms and water preasure are you getting at WOT also how is the rooster tail??
