Hey Chris, welcome to BBC. I am sure someone here has this boat and will get your question answered. You may look at some of the members, if you find someone here with a rig like your, IM them for some information. Hang around, its a great place, you willl find it very addictive here![]()

Hey!
I've got a Pro285XL.
Standard rating is for up to 150HP.
From the factory, a 'Magnum" pagkage will up that to 175HP. The Mag Package comes with upgraded steering (SeaStar instead of Baystar), a HotFoot and Teleflex column-trim lever and a manual jacking plate (6") - all easy to identify without pulling anything apart.
Cheers,
Steve Morgan

csmetreyeon06 / Steve - I also have a 285 Pxl and mine is rated for a 150 but came with the Seastar Hydraulic steering, trim control package, hot foot and 6" jack plate. I believe my dealer ordered this boat with the "Magnum" options but it is a true 285 Pxl with the 150 hp taing. The Magnum is rated for the 175, no difference in structure, hull or transom whatsoever.
Steve - Give me some data on your 285 with 150. I have a 2004 model with a Johnson 150 Carb engine and I am stuggling to find the sweet spot with motor height. I can run 62 mph (GPS, best peformance so far) with a 24" Raker with a 1/2 tank, gear and myself and two dogs. I tried to raise the plate to 3 3/16" propshaft-to-pad but seemed to have lost top end. I was somewhere in the 3 7/16" neighborhood when I adjusted and forgot to mark the jackplate. Can you give me some numbers and tell me your best motor height setting? Once I find the sweet spot again, thats it. I figure more speed is only available if I go with an HO E-Tec or forget about insurance and put a 175 on it (or possibly lose some weight). Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Yep. Talking with the (ex)Stratos guys, they sais that the 150/175 rated hulls were structurally the same.
Still dialling in the rig - when I'm happy with its set-up, I'll measure and send you the stats. May be a little different, though, since I'm running mostly in saltwater, which is more dense.
Also, I'll have to convert to inches. Ther rest of the world runs on metric!!
I was all set to put a 175 on mine, but they were another two months wait... and I couldn't!
Cheers,
SM

Guys you have to remember mines a 1995 model it didn't have a jackplate it has hotfoot and it had teleflex steering just added the jackplate and teleflex nfb steering
Buccaneer,
Went for a quick blat on the local (saltwater) river this afternoon.
Half tank of gas and minimal load it got to 64mph GPS. Added my mechanic and it went 62. Around 5200rpm.
I reckon that I can still lift it about 15mm (1/2 inch-ish). Could really feel it pop up out of the water at higher speeds. I assume that's when it pops the outer chines out of the water and runs on the area between the inner strakes.
Love the 150 E-Tec, too. I've run E-Tec 90s before, and I'm not disappointed!
Cheers,
SM

Thanks Steve, I guess the primary difference between our rigs is the e-Tec powerplant. What prop are your running and what is your engine height propshaft to pad? Guess I'll stay happy with the 62mph and Johnny Carb 150. PS, that uplifting feeling you got was when the boat broke loose and was running on pad, the last 12" or less of the center of the keel in the water. Sort of feels good doesn't it?
I just recently bought a 1997 285 pro elite. I have a 175 Intruder on it.
I HAVE A 98 285 ELITE. IT DOESN`T SAY PRO ON IT BUT MY TAG SAYS 285 XL & IS RATED FOR A 175. IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A ELITE & A PRO ELITE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT
THANKS
I have a 95 Pro XL and it is rated at 175.
