My buddy is looking at a 20 javelin renegade w/225 johnson (both 01 models) assuming proper setup, what kind of speeds will that boat see? Are there any common problems with this model?

That's the predecessor to the 200 ProXL. Same hull with some minor Stinson tweaks and a new topcap. Don't know what to tell you on speed, except that the boat is great boat.

Some were reaching 80 ish with the 225HO and a 28 Mazco
I owned that boat, one very nice riding boat. Fast and handled Erie like no other. Sold it to a guy in Iowa, bought a Stratos, and regretted it ever since. Your buddy will love the R20 with 225.
Problems: Make sure the knee braces are installed in the transom.
