New Javelin Owner with a question

    Hey guys,
Glad to be here! I just bought a '98 javelin 379T and I have a quick question. I think I have everything figured out except one switch. Does anyone know what the lever/switch that is right under the drive lever does? It is labelled with "open" and "close". I think it is for the aerator and it opens a valve to let water in and out. The reason I ask is that I can't get it to close fully and I am not for sure what it controls. It is not an electrical switch but a mechanical one.

    Any help wuld be appreciated.

that opens and closes the valve for the livewell drain
that way you can pull the boat out and still keep you livewell full like for a weigh in at a tourny
if you leave it open and put the boat in the water the livewell will fill up to the water level

    Ok great!,
So what can I do about not wanting to go all the way over to close? Is it a mechanical valve, can I lube the cable or something?

    Thanks

    Eric

Look in the bilge area in the back of the boat. You should see the valve with 2 hoses connected to it - one end should go to the transom to let the water drain. You may have some trash in the valve or the cable may need to be adjusted some. I've cleaned mine several times. It pretty easy to do.

Re: New Javelin Owner with a question (Javelin389)

Thanks guys, I'm having the same problem on the Stratos 278 I bought last year. I've been hoping to be able to get away from having to use the plug in the livewell.

    Thanks, Bill

yea it could be some junk in the valve or the cable kinked
unhook the cable and have someone move the lever and you watch it at the back of the boat and make sure its moving ok to see if the cable is ok

Same problem in my "92 Javelin. Turned out to be a bunch of junk not letting it close all the way.

try back flushing the valve with a hose in your yard. many times debris gets in the valve and this will help
