    Carbon Fouling

    Model#e175ftlec
    Ser#04497059

It takes about six weeks and I foul out a set of plugs. I am going to replace the thermostats. Is there anything else that can cause carbon fouling? Just want to cross all the T's and dot all the I's while I am at it!!

    Thanks

Champion XC12PEPB, I was running AMSOIL, but am currently running Quicksilver TCW3. Was at a out of town tourney and the local dealer only had quicksilver. It was a, I need it now purchase. Will probably run XD50 next batch! Or atleast a syn. equivelant.

Had the same problem with mine on a 225 johnson ho. Ended up it was the amsoil I was using. It has no carbon fighting agents. Switch to quicksilver. No problems since changing oils. Stick with quicksilver or anything rated with tcw3. I was told to stay away from the full synthetic oils for a carborated motor.

    Re: Carbon Fouling (pikemaster)

My fouling started after I was running the Quicksilver. I actually had no problems with the Amsoil, just saw bad reviews on the BBC!! I think it might be the thermostats, but just did not want to overlook anything!!

Thermostats are a good idea if the motor is not getting up to proper temperature but another plug fouling problem is from overpropping. The 1998 an '99 175 FICHT should be running close to 5800 rpm, no less than 5500.
