Buddy from my bass club met up with me today to get my boat dialed in. Never really had messed with the jack plate that much and wanted some help. He's a Skeeter team guy and really knows his stuff.
I'd never really broken 69mph on a good day (no wind, half tanks of fuel, running solo, etc) and I was getting frustrated so I asked for some help.
Got the jack plate just right and with some other work I finally got it to 71 mph at 5800 RPM's. My prop has a couple of dings in it so I think with cleaning it up and have it set right I might be able to get close to 75.
Side note, did I learn a lot about weight. When he opened up my compartments to look he laughed. Had a TON of plastics in there and a LOT of hard baits. All in my center two compartments. Boat was balanced well, but heavy.
He made me GUT the front of my boat except for all my rods and what baits I'd use today. WOW. When we got out on the water the boat was sitting 2" higher EASILY. That's when after the final adjustment I got my top speeds.
I'd been adding and adding plastics over time, not thinking much about it but damn did I realize how much I'd put in there !!
I bet when I reorganize I don't carry 1/3 of what I did before !!!
