I am having a problem with the bow light on my 2008 ZX250. It seems the socket is getting power when the light switch is OFF and not getting power when the switch is ON. If I flip the over ride switch, it cuts the power to the light. The stern light works correctly. What are some possible causes of this?

It's always worked before?
Did you add anything recently where you might have wired it wrong? Have you tried replacing the switch? Try swapping it with another switch somewhere on the boat if you have another. Or bypass the switch, connect the wires together and see if the light comes on with the other lights.
I got it figgered out... I think.
Yesterday morning I got to the ramp, plugged in my lights and hit the button, the bow light didnt come on. First assumption is that the butt connector in the front panel had come loose as it has done in the past, it was indeed seperated. I plugged it back together and still nothing. To verify I was getting power to the socket, I pulled the stern light and stuck it in the front socket. I hit the button and it only worked when the bow light wasnt supposed to be on. I said the hell with it and did without.
This afternoon, I started troubleshooting, first thing I checked was the bulb in the bow light, good but out of position. I put the light in and turned on the switch, it worked. Then I "saw the light"
. The stearn light has 2 prongs, the bow has 3. My bow light has the little courtesy light in it operated by a switch on the top of the light. Apparently one of the 3 prongs stays hot while the switch is off so the courtesy light will still work when at anchor, then when you have the bow light on that prong must turn off and the other one on, the stearn light must have used the always hot prong.
Glad i figured it out, I feared that something may have gone wrong with the button on my touch pad. Turns out it was troubleshooting problem.

ah but of course....I always forget about that because I don't have that(switch) on my boat but I've used that power for adding LEDs on my front deck.
