HELP - 93 johnson Fast Strike Question?

Took the boat out this past weekend, and went great. As i was going to put the boat on the trailer, I put it in reverse to line it up with the trailer, and it will go into reverse, but will not speed up? I took the hood off thinking it was a linkage problem, but it has a little black plug with two wires coming out of it, did not want to screw with it because not sure what to do, any one have any answers for me?

The motor will go forward at low, mid and full throttle, with no problem, just has no power in reverse?
Also, when motor is trimmed up to run slow through shallow water, it wants to die at low speed, is this because it is a straight carb motor?

Also, I just picked up this boat about a month ago, called the previous owner to find out what oil he was using, he said he was using Lubramatic, should I change or will it run ok with that?
I was told by a motor guy here in town, as long as it has TCW-lll in it they are all the same oils in that formula with just the lables being different?

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be, something simple or serious, my two boys and I were planning on hitting the Mn. opener, and I don't want to run it if it could lead to something major, thanks.

You say you have no power in reverse. Can you move the hand controls all the way back? Take the cover off the motor and see if the throttle linkage is moving at all in reverse. I suspect you might have something wrong with your hand controls.

Welcome to the boards, First we only recommend BRP products here. Try removing the throttle cable from the linkage and manually move it to see if it is moving in reverse. You shouldn't get 5000 when backing up but at least 1500. CM

    Welcome to the BBC.

Which boat and what control box do you have? IE: surface mount, concealed side mount, other?

As far as the lubramatic oil, I would suggest you Do Not use that oil, use the XD-30 or XD-50 Bombardier oil.

The motor should not die at idle when trimmed up, remove the motor cover see if the carbs are wet indicating a fuel leak, if so, you will need to repair or replace the carb bowls.

Thank you for the info, I talked with a guy in town and he gave me all the answers you guys did.
I pulled the air box last night, and the carbs were wet, but there also was a rubber hose diconnected, that was supposed to be hooked to the air box and also one of those circular gaskets the seat the carb in the air box, was missing.
One again, could either of these issues mean anything? thanks.

The only thing you listed that stands out is the carbs being wet, you may need to replace the carb bowls or at least sand them to get the leaks fixed.
