Question Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA?

Wanting to take the wife on a 25th wedding anniversary/ birthday getaway for 5 or 6 days at the end of October. She's always wanted to see Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. Drive time is pretty much the same from northern WV (one hour difference). Anybody been to both that could give me any comparisons and/or recommendations. No fishing involved this time just some sight seeing and good restaurants. Thanks for any tips or suggestions. Can't miss restaurants and places to stay are welcomed. Thanks..Dave

I was born in Savannah, loved it, miss it. St Patrick's day is great there but I have friends in Charleston and I think it is a little nicer for vacationing.

Ive been to both and both are nice. I think that Charleston has more sightseeing to do than Savannah. Both are historic and you cant go wrong with either one. The wife and I are looking at taking a second trip to Charleston this fall or next spring.

I currently live in Savannah, I'd visit Charleston, they have done a much better job keeping the down town historic. Savannah DT is turning into nothing but bars and hotels.

Visit Charleston then take a day trip to Savannah book tickets on one of the trolleys that takes you around the city they are excellent tours... We found one that has free parking travel back to Charleston along the coast through Beaufort

I lived in Charleston for ten years and of course visited several places in that area then including Savannah. For your trip I'd visit Charleston. Im currently on our family vacation on a small SC island between those two called Fripp. Not much to do here but relax, but it's really nice!

Visit both of them, Charleston first and then Savannah, the drive thru the low country is nice on Hwy 17 to Savannah. About 2 hr drive. Scenic between Beaufort and Savannah.

I've been to both a few times and for my wife and I we prefer Savannah much more. Charleston may have more to do but it is very expensive and not as welcoming as Savannah. If you decide on Savannah PM me and I'll give you the names of a few restaurants to try and places to visit.

Love them both. If I had to pick one I'd go for Charleston. Love the history, the architecture, the food, the fishing. As said, day trip to Savannah.

Charleston. Rent a house on Folly Beach, do the historical site seeing around downtown during the day time, grab some grub and go back to enjoy your time together in the peace. Make a day trip to Savannah.

LMAO!! This is not a good representation of how we live here. The people on this show are a bunch of spoiled rich brats. It's filled with fake drama and women love it...

That sounds like a good plan. I don't know as I'd do Savannah as a tour though (maybe cause I hate tours). If you're healthy, just read up on the sights, park in the middle, and walk to stuff. DO NOT let your wife talk you into doing the old house tour!!!!!! It's worse than watching her choose curtains. Strolling along the river can be pleasant for a couple of hours. Lots of bars, shops, some music, and street vendors. The cemeteries are a big draw still. They were crazy popular after they made the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".

We vacation in Savannah and stay on Tybee and love it. That way we have the beach and fishing, then go into Savannah for the food and sights. Plan on a Charleston trip sometime.

Charleston by a country mile. Been to both more than once. More to do in Charleston. It's a much cleaner city and has less 'not so nice' areas than Savannah. Meeting street Inn is lower budget but still really nice and in the mix of downtown. We've also stayed at the Indigo Inn (a B&B) and loved it there. Magnolia Plantation is a great day trip as is Folly Beach if you want to get out of the city. Ft Sumter tour is great. Food options are better in Charleston.
