    Given the choice...............

If you were given the choice and the funds to choose between the 20i and 21i which would you choose and why?Lets keep it to these 2 models.
Only asking because used 21's are very close in price to 20's.

I like the fact that i can have a 250HP on a 20' boat so I choose the 20i. It is perfect if you fish around docks and tight to cover but is also great on big water. I can go anywhere a 21i can go in rough water but I still have a little more performance and its a bit more responsive to drive. personally I think the 20i is about the best overall boat I have owned with a ZX225 right behind it with a Ranger Z520 pretty close but in third. You can just tell that Skeeter and Ranger were built by fishermen by their layouts.

I like the 21i but for me the 20i would work much better. I fish smaller lakes on the most part and love flippin/pitchin in the brush. The 20 is easier to manuver around tight spots and just fits the 250 engine better. Let's make sure a 250 SHO is pushing the boat. If I stayed on Amistad more the 21i would be a no brainer with the big open water.

The the two specific reasons I went with the 20i were:

    1) rough water ride which you will get with a 21' as well
    2) 250hp on a 20' boat

Seemed the best of both worlds to me.

Most of the lakes I will be fishing are under 10,000 acres. With 1 or 2 being larger along with the Potomac as well. This being said would the 20i be fine for these waters? I like the idea of haveing a little more maneuverability but want to feel safe in the rig I'm in.
I'm sure a lot of guys are running the 20i in much bigger water than this.It will be my first rig so maybe I'm just overthinking this.

I think the 20i will do just fine for you. I take my ZX225 on some big water every year and it handles it just fine. My next boat will be a 20i.

There are a ton of 20i's here in texas running big waters like Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Amistad, Texoma etc. We have a ton of lakes over 20,000 acres. I have been in big water up to 30mph winds just fine. Its all in the way you drive it. it can go anywhere you want it to and in just about any weather as long as you are being safe. The 20i is a beast of a boat.

Re: Given the choice............... (Mark Perry)

I'm going to go against the grain here, I would pick the 21i. I currently have a zx250 and fish a lot of docks. The boat manuvers fine in between them for me and I have yet to not be able to get access to something that a 20 foot boat would. Not saying it will never happen, but I have yet to see it. I also feel like my boat floats just a tad higher in the water because the extra length on it. That could be just my brain playing tricks on me, but I can get into some stupidly shallow places.

After fishing out of my boat for a few years, when I get into buddies 20 foot boats, I feel cramped. Plus, my front deck is just long enough that my wife can lay up there in a bikini during the summer. For that reason alone I don't think I'd ever buy another 20 footer. It's always nice to have somethign to do when the fish arn't biting.

other than it still having a 2 stroke (other than this year) I think the 20i is the best boat you can get...

it will be my next boat for sure, I just want a 4 stroke on it...

    Re: Given the choice............... (skeetzx225)

i fish out of a zx250 and my partner had a 20i, i can't tell the difference in the two boats as far as fishability. so i would think you are not going to see much difference in the two boats you are referring to except the 20i will probably be a little faster.

OK so to everyone who favored the 20i over the 21i, would you get another 20i or would you look at the FX20?

    Re: Given the choice............... (jiggerjake)

I have a 20i and can tell you that is a lot of boat. It has a good rough water ride and the performance is good. It is the best fishing platform I have fished from. I recently just purchased it as a non-current 2009 that was new. For the dollars I saved I couldn't justify the FX. But if money was no issue and I was compairing a 2011 20i to a 2011 FX I would purchase the FX. It comes standard with the DMS dash and I really like the one on my 2009 20i. The electronic locking system and alarm is a nice feature. Not sure that is an option now for the I class rigs or not? But the touchpad (last years ZX dash) dash is now standard on the I class. I have not personally rode in a FX but my understanding is there a bit quicker and have a very similiar ride and a specially designed hull to match the SHO motor. They also have kind of a nose down look to them which I like. A couple of these itmes are just personal preferences. As far as quality of boat flip a coin. But the FX is the new Flagship for Skeeter.
