    Water/Fuel Separator in new motor

Hello, been reading a little bit about a water/fuel separator for the Yamaha's. I have purchased a 2009 250 HPDI. Do I need to consider adding this? The motor is new with zero hours. Also, is there any other maintenance that I should consider?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kendall

From your post, it sounds like you bough just the motor. If that's the case then most certain get a water fuel separator filter. That would be the first thing after the motor gets installed. For the whole kit its around $50-$70. Just depending what brand and who you get it from. It's an easy do it yourself install. I got my yamaha kit from local dealer in town and installed it myself with no problems. Going on a few years that i have it. Right now with it new you will have to break it in. Read the manual and follow it and you shouldnt have any problem. There should be others on here that can give you more info on breaking the motor in.

Yes you most definitely need a separator. You want to go with the Yamaha 10 micron filter.

I have the same motor as you except mine is an 08 and contrary to what some people do I run Yamalube oil and always treat my fuel with stabil and the Yamaha Ring Free additive.

Also, with your motor being new make sure you follow the rules during the break in period and have it serviced after those 10 hours. Good luck with your new motor!

Thanks to you both. I guess the motor don't come with a separator. I would have thought that Yamaha would have had one on it. Anyway it sits on a 09 20i. Dealer is setting up now. Was just thinking I would buy this and have them put it on since it is becoming water ready.

Oh so you got a new boat and motor. If that's the case it should have have the filter assmebly installed in the bilge area in the back. Will have to stick your head down in there and look towards the transom. It will look like a oil filter that goes on vehicle. The new boats come with it pre-installed. If you have a great dealer, he will get everything ready and all you do is drive to the ramp and drop it in the water. Some even crank the motor and let it idle to make sure all the mechanics are working correctly. If you have questions they should also be able to answer them. Unlike my dealer when i bought mine, all they cared about was taking my money and didnt do shit to prep the boat and check it all out before i left the parking lot.

Ah, that is good then. I will be sure to talk with them. Sounds like your dealer did not have good CS. I believe the ShowMe Campers and Boats crew will get it right. My 3rd boat from them (first Skeeter). They've always come through for me.

    Thanks,

Ya, Brad Hall the service manager is on his game. Defintely, a quality person and a good mechanic. Shane is absouletly great as well. I've really enjoyed working with him over the years with my boats as well as some other items. Fantastic group to work with in my opinion. I think a lot of them boys there.
