Front trim switch wierdness... or not?

So today I notice that the front trim switch (the one on the molded plastic consolette by the trolling motor) intermittently wasn't raising my big motor, would only lower it. Then the raise might come back on for a minute and then go out again. In other words, sometimes it would work and then it wouldn't.

The trim switch on the throttle and the switch on the motor all worked fine. I unscrewed the front assembly and checked the wiring to the switch. The console power switch was fine. It all looked good so I assumed the front switch was going out for the intermittent failure.

Then I noticed that the navigation light switch was "on," without lights being in the sockets. I switched the nav. switch to "off" and after that, the front trim switch retruned to behaving normally.

Anyone here know why that happened?

Yes this has happened to me, but the only time mine would happen was when the front navigation light was on......... I'd be running down the lake and the motor would start trimming up without touching anything ............................. Buy a new switch

I had mine stop going one direction (forget up or down) I took the panel off and wiggled my connectors and it has worked fine since. I am not sure if the lights had anything to do with my problem since I never use that switch when the lights are on.

As Neil said. Wiggle some wires up front before buying a new one.

I wiggled the wires 'til my cows came home and the problem remained. The switch pops right out, so I went to my local boat dealership with the old switch and replaced it. It was 8 bucks. All is good now.
