110HP Evinrude Pro Series Tracker model

I have an old 89 110hp oil injected engine that was just rebuilt with new powerhead, water pump, oil pump, with the carbs rebuilt as well. The motor seems to run fine. No big problems except for when I have the throttle around 3500-4000 rpm's it will start to increase in rpm's by itself and then all of a sudden jump to like 7000 rpms. Is this a throttle cable issue or something more serious?

The question is do you see an increase in speed to go with the RPM increase, if not I would suspect the tach or the rectifier. the only other thing I can think of would be the prop slipping but I do not believe that engine would hold up turning 7000 RPM!s

its hard to tell if the speed increases as the speedo is busted but the engine does scream. Of course when this happens I immeadiately throttle back which bring everything back to normal. I guess i will need to take it back to the shop that rebuilt it. Thanks for the help.

That sounds like it is the prop to me. You can put a mark on the hub with a sharpie run it and check to see if the mark still lines up, if not then you have spun the hub on that prop.

If the sound of the motor does not change you most likely have a bad tach.

its not a bad tach. When the tack starts to increase the engine does rev up. And then when it maxes out the tach the engine revs are very loud. The place that rebuilt the motor put a new prop on it. Is a new hub expensive?

Most prop shops can check and install a new hub fairly reasonable.
