    Recording Side View

I have been recording my SI on my Humminbirds for over a year. Enjoy going back and looking at a days trip. Often see a lot of things I missed while busy fishing. Well to get to the point I am not having much luck doing this with my Garmin 93sv Plus. When I get home and view the recording using HomePort the ranges are all wrong. Yesterday's recording we were fishing in 12 to 18 FOW and the display on Homeport showed a side distance of 18'. In 16' of water the whole screen was taken up by the area under the boat and left only 2' of bottom view on both sides. A waste of time viewing that. I under stand HomePort has been a problem for years and Garmin won't fix it and no one wants to create a program that is usable. I would just like to see the full 80' to each side I had the machine set for. What am I doing wrong? Also is it me of the Garmin that is not letting me record more then one view at a time? That and I can't record LiveView. Do I have to mount a camera in front of the screen to record it. This is the best data and I would like to watch it later. If anyone can help thanks. Don

Welcome to a downside of going with a Garmin.

I also record with HB and Lowrance to watch later, but not with the Garmin.

D Johnson--fought that battle with Garmin 2-3 years ago right after I got mine. Recording and playback of sv was a very big part of my decision/ And also my most disappointing part of going Garmin. They weren't gonna fix it then and they ain't gonna now

So I take it that the narrow display I get showing mostly the water column is Garmin's fault and I just have to live with it. No problem as I have 3 birds on my boat that do a great job of recording and just use the Garmin for Livescope. I use my Garmin on my friends pontoon boat and that is when I try to record SI. Just was hoping I was doing something wrong so I could fix it and look at more bottom on SI. I know the HomePort will never be fixed but could live with the basic options it provides. I only bought the unit for the LiveScope and man that rocks. When I can see my 6 pound fishing line going from my weight to the surface at 20 feet I couldn't ask for more. Don

Yes sir, the way it is designed (design flaw as far as I am concerned). Homeport is only this way on sv, you can view 2d and dv quite nicely. But for someone with an eye disease the appeal of getting to play back sv on a bigger screen (PC) was significant. I thought the learnings would be well worth it. I'm not disappointed that I went with Garmin, just that this was misrepresented.

Never thought about the eye disease thing, makes sense. I should have as I have had cataract surgery in both eyes and cornea transplants in both eyes but see petty normal now. I do set 3 feet in front of a 52" HD TV/monitor so can see where they might have a problem. I can live with out recording SV as I only bought the Garmin for use with LiveScope and except for not being able to record that I am impressed. The SV is not as good as my Birds SI so when on my boat I can record SI with them. I don't use DV much so maybe should record it to see what I am missing. Thanks Don
