    Battery Recommendations..

    Hello Everyone,
    I just recently purchased a 2001 ZX202 with a 200HP Yamaha and a 24 Volt Motorguide Trolling Motor (My 1st boat)..
Having said that, the boat has not been used in years (5 or 6 years, it was just sitting in storage) and I need to buy a set of new batteries..
My question is which brand and type do you guys think will do me best..

    Thanks in advance..

I would suggest (2) Trojan SCS 225's for and (1) Trojan crank'in. Lots of reserve minutes for the money.

I would go with a Interstate Group 29 Cranking Marine Batt for the big motor, Yammies need Alot of CCA/ MCC 1000 with a res as high as you can get. If its a HPDI make Sure you get a Batt this high if its a ox66 then you can get away with less like 800 (then just get the Biggest Everstart cranking batt you can but make sure it is a CRANKING Batt)

Trolling motor batts I like the Everstart Group 29 form wall-mart for a couble reasons
    1) if you need to replace them there is a store everywere and there open 24/7
    2) price
    3) good warranty
    4) I have been using them for years and really have not had problems, all batts will give you problems from time to time its all about the way You take care of them

Rick at Angles Marine can hook you up with the Cranking batt, Interstate Deep Cy are good to for the trolling motor and Rick could hook you up with them too. But for the price I would still go with the everstarts because if you need to change a batt out like I said there OPEN all the time

Just keep in mind your going to Live on the trolling motor so if you need a replacement it does not help if you cann't get it when you need it ( sorry but our store does not open till 9:00am and were not open on sundays and so on and so on) This is my 2 cents worth

PS If your in FL right now then you can get a Interstate Cranking Batt at alot of places

VERY WELL STATED I like the gel Batteries but have also had good luck with the Wal Mart Battery. I will have to think before setting up my next boat. As Kirk has made a good point I never thought about....

all I wanted to do was to give something to think about when you buy batts, its just like boats there all good you just need to deiiecd what your looking for in the long run and for me its how easy is it to get them replaced IF Needed

the bottom line is your batts are ONLY as good as You service them

    Re: Battery Recommendations.. (Rod Wynn)

    Rod,
I think your battery trays are for size 27 batteries ( at least that's what came stock in mine ). I recommend GEL type batteries. As for brand, i would say go to Walmart for the reasons mentioned above - They're everywhere and they stay open all 7/24, and trust me.. there's nothing worse than getting ready for the big weekend, your buddy's flown into town, all your gear is set and you get to the lake only to find out your have a bad battery.

These are maintenance free and you won't have deal with adding distilled water, etc.. As for the cranking battery, I would buy the one with the biggest cranking amps.

I have had the Deka batteries in my boat since new. Going on my fifth year and still have the originals in here. Cant beat that.

    Re: Battery Recommendations.. (Skeeter-Jim)

My Deka died yesterday. Been in the boat since 04.
I'm not certain if any one brand is better than another though. I use my boat (batteries) all the time, and keep em charged when not in use.
Useage/maintenance is probably key to having any battery last as long as possible.
Gel batteries are probably best, but, pricey.
Wal Mart batteries should work great also. Less expensive and like what has already been said. "there's a replacement on most every corner, 24hrs a day"
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........
