    Another Busted Axle!

Back in September I had the front axle on my EZ Loader tandem trailer replaced, something having to do with the torsion suspension. Friday I get home from the lake only to notice the rear is now broken, tire rubbed the fender and cut it.

Has anyone else had a problem with axles breaking?

    Re: Another Busted Axle! (Neilslure)

It happened to me on my single torsion axle. Good thing it happened in my garage over the winter. UFP made the axles and built me a new one. They sent it to customline trailer and they painted it and sent it to me. I put it on. No problems since.

The rubber is vulcanized to the axle splines inside the square axle. It was a bad bond.

Ask Lyn Dyer on the trailer tow page... He is aware of this I bet. Not sure if UFP is the manufactur for skeeter trailers, But I bet they are...

Yep Mike, thats what they did last time. Already sent Lyn an email, got an auto reply saying he was on vacation til the 5th. Gonna try calling EZ Loader today to see if they can help me get the ball rolling on getting it fixed. I would think they would have an axle for my trailer that they could paint and ship out this week.

Is there possibly a drop off or something at one of the ramps you use frequently? It almost sounds like there is a contributing factor causing the damage. Maybe a bad road on the way to the ouse or something. I have had 4-5 EZ Loader trailers and have never had an issue with their axles.

I wonder what about the torsion arm makes it more apt to break?

Not exactly sure how the torsion suspension works but what ever it is that supports the load has broken.

Mark, there is nothing out of the ordinary on the way to any of the lakes I fish. One ramp I use does have a 2 ft gap in it where 2 concrete slabs separated but that is only an issue when the water is really low, I always avoid that lane anyhow.

Guess they just had a bad run of axles and I got two of them

    Re: Another Busted Axle! (K.D.)

The problem lyes in the rubber in the axle letting loose... Torsion axle only. The suspension is the rubber with a splined arm vulcanized inside... No springs. Makes for a quiet squeek free, smooth towing trailer. My single axle torsion pulls almost like a tandem spring traler.

My rear broke this year. I had my trailer parked in my back yard on a incline to let the moisture drain. When I went to move the boat I heard the tire rubbbing. They took care of the problem it is just a hassle to deal with.

If UFP makes them you can contact ez loader or talk to Lyn Dyer on the trailer board, he's from UFP and should point you in the right direction.

    Re: Another Busted Axle! (Neilslure)

I use to have a couple enclosed trailers that had torsion axles.....we hauled alot of weight in those trailers and never had a problem with the axles....seems strange to have both on the same trailer fail....by the way EZ Loader is closed until 1/5/09....I tryed to contact them last week....

    Re: Another Busted Axle! (Neilslure)

I called the shop today that is going to do the repair and they said the axle came in. However from what I understand the replacement tire was not shipped. I was told on the phone that the tire would be shipped the same time as the axle, called the guy that told me that today asking where my tire is, he said he would check on it and call me, still waiting. They are also jerking me around about replacing my fender that is damaged as a result of the axle failing. If it werent for a faulty axle, my fender would not be creased and distorted. EZ Loader and Skeeter will hear from me tomorrow . No reason I should have to go through this on a trailer that is not even a year old. . Being that this is the second time my axle has gone bad, they really need to step up and get it together.

After two times maybe you should start asking for a new trailer.

    That's BS.

Gotta say i agree... with it being so new this should be dealt with swiftly without any hassles.

After several years you can understand having to pay something or at least split on costs... but under a year.. ouch I feel your pain!
