Friends, I have a 2nd hand 1998 Ficht 175 (G04628356) that has a Mod Tag on it. Its been running a little rough at idle so I brought to an Evinrude shop who installed new plugs, said old ones were not indexed. Engine ran fine for 2 days then stumbled at startup, and ever since idles very rough, and is very hard to start when warm (10-20 cranks)- smokes, races when it finally catches, and stutters for 2-3 minutes, ocassionally stalling, until the Control Module kicks in and slows 'er down to normal. At anything over trolling speeds it runs fine (momentum?). Tach crapped out shortly after I took delivery 2 yrs ago so no RPM data to report. Nothing has changed in the evironment - same gas, oil, filter etc - and no water draining from the water sep. bowl. Seems like the machine is flooding - I smell gas - but no idea what would have made the sudden change. Plugs are tight, indexed and all wires snug - - in fact, the engine doesnt idle any differently with top left plug wire off. Gas has stabil in it and some was old stabil - but engine ran fine 4 times so far this year, so I dont suspect fuel quality. Tank is 2/5 full, I burn only 1 full tank a year. I decided not to fill up after last problematic outing in case the mechaninc who sees it next wants to evaluate all variables, including gas. Any suggestions? Tks,
