When I put the boat on the trailer and run it up to the bow stop, kill the motor, step up to casting deck, boat slides away from bow stop. Should I leave the motor running and in gear, hook the strap and tightened it down then kill and raise motor? I power load but down like to have thrash my motor getting up on the trailer. Still looking for that happy medium of how far to back trailer in the water. Seems like it's a very fine line.

IMHO, if you have carpeted bunks, you need to leave a little more bunk out of the water to keep the boat on the trailer. It's dangerous to leave the motor in gear but I've done it. Each ramp is different. You might consider buying a self locking front latch.
Revving up the motor is necessary unless you can really aim, and come in at speed. Don't forget to raise the motor so you don't hit the bottom with your prop.
Just leave it in gear while you hook up. That's what I did. That or leave just a little more trailer out of the water, it won't take much
I power loaded for many many years. New boat has a ladder on the bow, back in about the same and solely winch it. Been good for me. Now when the waves are rolling over I still power load, defenately stop a bit earlier and I have let the boat idle in gear
