    Wheel/Hub seal?

    Had a caliper seize up on me last fall. Wheel and hub got extremely hot but didn't hurt bearing and it wasn't slinging grease. Changed out all the brake parts and everything is OK now but I'm having 2nd thoughts that I prob should have at least changed seals on that hub cause the heat. What everyones thought on this. Ive pulled prob 60 miles since this happened and it doesn't seem to be slinging grease but I'm trying to be proactive on it. I have a couple long trips scheduled soon.

    That's prob what will happen. I have the parts and its prob only a 15 minute job. But usually when I do one I end up doing all 4. OCD is a curse

    It depends on how far you usually tow. If you take a bunch of long trips, then I'd change it out. If most of your trips are an hour or less, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on it for grease being slung out. It should give you plenty of warning before a massive failure. If you had oil bath hubs, then I'd change it out now. But, greased hubs usually won't suffer a catastrophic failure that will fry a bearing in just a few miles.

    Took it all apart installed new seals. I could feel a groove in the stainless wear rings so I'm gonna change all those too. Fun Fun. Anyone used rtv under these wear rings. They have an oring under them but youd think rtv would work if someone needed a bush fix and had no oring

    Red high temp RTV under the SS wear ring is ok. I use the same RTV for installing the seal and bearing protector.

    I changed one (1) rear seal on my oil bath hub last fall. Just because it was weeping a little to much for my liking. Now all I can think of is doing the other 3.

    I used the high temp RTV, the same as Bob G.
