Real intermitant to me means electrical. I would concentrate on cleaning my connections and making sure I had good clean ground connections everywhere. If you have any paint around them, use something like sandpaper or a small electrical file to clean those connections.

I had a trim issue with my boat. Just quit working. Had been working and just quit. Only thing I had done was replace a battery. Know what it was? Dirty connectors.

No it doesn't. Last motor I had start doing that dropped a cylinder, for good.

One of these days I will rebuild it, and stick it on my little Javelin, and see what it runs like with about 50 more HP.

Make sure you have the factory recomended plugs first.

Remove and inspect the small orange wires (coil primaries) from ignition coils. Inspect wire terminal in boot & coil pin for corrosion. You have 6 of these on your engine.

Also, crazy as it seems, if you are using wing nuts on your batteries, GET RID OF THEM and go with Nylock type nuts (the ones with nylon rings in the end to "trap" the threads so they won't loosen.

It does make it a pain in the butt to loosen when you need to, however they stay nice and TIGHT which means electrical problems will be cut way down.

Another thing is to de-carb the outboard and run some SeaFoam in her afterwords. I was amazed at the difference in how my outboard ran after I did that on mine this spring.

Hey guys , i have the proper plugs (just put them in last week), checked all coil
primaries all look fine and are good, no corrosion found . all cables clean and tight . only thing i saw the plug wires have some rub marks and what looks to be a small pin hole in one , from my automotive past i should replace wires that look like that.My local johnson parts house said i need to measure the wires to see which i need does this sound right? again thanks for the help , and if you know of anywhere else i should check let me know.

Take off your motor cowl and then remove the flywheel cover, (3 phillips head screws) look at the stbd side of the motor. you will see a lever with a roller on it. Loosen the phillips head screw on Its hold down bracket and advance it to the Timing lever, If you look down on it you will see the +/- on both sides of the lever. Move the throttle roller to touch the timing lever.
