anyone experimented with props for the 20 I / 250hpdi combo

Just wondering. I think mine is set up like most with a 25 T-1. Works ok in high heat weather, but in cooler weather I get to 6,000rpms pretty quick with throttle and trim left. Anyone using a 4 blade or anything else with this combo and happy with it?

Sent mine off to Mark's Propeller for a B/P and got my r's down to around 5800 with no loss in perormance. Hoped to see an increase in speed but I guess that wasn't meant to be with this rig. You can tell him what you want and he will fix you up

Re: anyone experimented with props for the 20 I / 250hpdi combo (phillic)

my concern would be that if I modify this prop to reduce rpms in the cooler months, that I might not perform as well in the summer months. Is that anything to worry about. I was thinking that 4 blade Trophy might work well. I know the run those props a lot on Basscat's. I was wondering if anyone may have tried one.

Mine turned 6000 in the summer and the prop work brought it down to the 57-5800 range. Haven't got to try it this winter, yet, blown engine again

Here are some numbers I tried a few weeks ago on a 2007 20I / 250 hpdi, full tournament load, 3/4 full of gas, 2 1/2 inches below pad:

    V-Max T-1 25 - great hole shot, 5800 rpms, 73 GPS, good lift
Spinelli 27P - great hole shot, 5400 rpms, 71 GPS, good lift
Tempest 27P - okay hole shot, 5400 rpms, 73 GPS, almost too much lift
Powertech TRO 4 27P - great hole shot, 5400 rpms, 70 GPS, pretty good lift
Powertech VMS 25P - great hole shot, 5800 rpms, 72 GPS, really good lift
Powertech VMX 25P - great hole shot, 5400 rpms, 70 GPS, pretty good lift

Now with motor raised 3/4 of an inch (1 3/4 inch below pad):

Powertech TRO 4 27P - good hole shot, 5500 rpms, 70 GPS, okay lift
Tempest 27P - pretty good hole shot, 5700 rpms, 75 GPS, she liked it
Spinelli 27P - great hole shot, 5700 rpms, 72 GPS, really good lift
Powertech VMX 25P - great hole shot, 5500 rpms, 71 GPS, good lift
Tempest 26P - good hole shot, 5700 rpms, 73 GPS, pretty decent lift

Water pressure was 25 or better throughout. Hope this helps. If we could just get a little global warming in our area, we will be trying a few other props and set-ups.

Jeff, thats good info! Thanks for posting it. Right now I'm looking for a good spare prop to use (07 20i w/250HPDI). I thought I had to have a 25T for a spare. Seems like other props can provide similar performance. I think I'll start shopping around for prices on some of the ones you posted.

That is what I was doing, looking for a spare prop. Our local prop guy asked me if I would mind trying a couple of different props out and the next thing I know, he has loaded me down with a whole school of them. He told me that since this was a fairly new boat, he wanted to see what performance a few variations would reflect.

Jeff, thanks for the info, it'll come in handy when I get motivated to try props again.

Your rpms seem low though, the Yamaha T-1 25 should be going 6,000 rpm no problem with a full load, full gas, 1 person (this time of year maybe even more). At this rpm, I get 75+ gps. I've been really wanting to see how a Tempest 25 or a TXP 25 would do. Either way, the Yamaha tech rep recommended propping these motors at 6,000 rpms to stay in the motor's power range.

I've found on my 2004 ZX250 a 26p TXP runs the best overall.

did you run the Yamaha 25T-1 after raising the motor? I'm wondering if you forgot to type the results, or didn't get a chance to run it.

    K.D.,

Nope, I sure didn't, but I will when the weather gets a little better. My daughter was getting a little impatient with me. She was putting me in and taking me out on the ramp. I think she was bored, which I do not blame her.

You should have seen my daughter. She HATES going fast in a bassboat, but I made her ride with me because I told her that I needed extra weight in the boat to help balance it out when I was testing it. It was "roller coaster" screams the whole time!

Re: anyone experimented with props for the 20 I / 250hpdi combo (JJohnSind)

I have an 06 20i w/250 HPDI and I am running a B&BP (by Mark) 26txp at 0" pad height. 5700 rpm's and 73 mph (gps). Super hole shot and no "chine walk". I had the motor raised up a hole to get the prop higher, it runs great at 0 inches pad to prop shaft.
