I'm from west nashville myself, by the way welcome to the BBC. Look at the electrial & trolling motor forum and ask John, He's the man on wiring them things up.

Thanks....I'm live in West Nashville also....feeling kinda dumb now....changed the TM batteries twice before...just went blank, thought I'd come to the sources !
+ (Red) to Battery 1 +
- (Black) to Battery 2 -
Jumper from - of Battery1 to + on Battery2
Will get you 24 Volts.

Thanks Doug, but I have more wires than that scenerio.......I've got 1 Black....I've got 2 Reds with breakers on them,.... and 1 of the Reds has the jumper already attached....it's factory wiring.
reds with breakers on them? You mean fuses right? Those are probably from your charger....one for each battery....on the + posts.

I know we are on the other side of town, but if you bring it by we will be glad to take a look at it and make sure it is hooked up correctly.![]()

Are you hooking up a 12/24 system or straing 24 volt?
If you are hooking up straight 24 then you need to get rid of one of the red cables (You have 3 going to the trolling motor)
You will have to test which one has power at the trolling motor. Then you can run just like I mentioned earlier.
Here are Images from Jones Trolling Motor on Wiring Set-ups:
Look at the top two to see which set-up you have:

I appreciate you guys trying to help, but I'm still stuck......your're right about the "breakers", I meant "re-sets", I have 2 red 6 gauge wires with re-sets,......it's not the wires to the charger, I have a black and red charger wire, and a black and red sensor wire for each battery.....the web site supplied is for a "charging system".......it is a 24 volt ( MG 82) , not a 12/24.....and it's the factory wiring...I just took them off and forgot how they go back.
1 Black (Im fairly certain this goes to Bat 1)
1 Red ( I'm fairly certain this goes to Bat 1)
1 Red ( with jumper)---what post on Bat 2 would this one go, and which post on Bat 1 would the jumper go)
Thanks again
Thanks again
These are TM wiring diagram from Jones Trolling Motor Repair (Electrical Moderators Site). Your boat was orginally wired for 12/24 system if it has 3 wires running to the TM.
What you need to find out is where the jumper to get 24 volts. As 24 volt trolling motors only have two wires. Either both leads are connected to the same terminal or you have a jumper bar in the TM plug.
The easiest way to wire is to get rid of the 12V side of the wiring and hook up as I orginally mentioned then you will never get in this situation again. That is how I set up all 12, 24, or 36 volt systems is doing the jumper at the batteries not in the TM plug. Like this image:

Doug, Ok,I think we're close....I have a 3 prong 30A plug (so no jumper there correct? ).....so I believe you are correct that the boat was originally wired 12/24....if so.....would the sequence be
1 Black to Bat 1
1 Red to Bat 1
1 Red to Bat 2
and the jumper from + Bat 1 to + Bat 2
That would leave nothing on - Bat 2 (except the charger wires)
Would that sequence produce 24 ?
I have 2 red and 1 black and I hooked + to bat one, - to bat 2, and jumper on the other 2 posts. I tied up the other red and everything works fine. I think Doug is correct on his posts. The extra is for a 12/24 volt setup. If I am wrong, someone please tell me before I burn something up.LOL What I don't understand is what is a 12/24 volt for?? Can you flip a switch and run 12 volts to save on the battery if you have a 12/24 trolling motor????
